Why does Gravatar require you to hash the email? -


i don't have technical background, i'm presuming there's simple answer this:

why gravatar require create hash of email address before sending request system? there technical (or social) reason not use email address?

it's prevent exposing email addresses harvesting. if raw email addresses used in avatar url, simple task spammers harvest email addresses nefarious purposes scraping html/dom of forum using gravatar.
